that it would play both sides of one tape and then both sides of the other, minimizing operator input. I expected (fool). I didn't have to start the second tape manually, of course, but that was only because the box was dead.I have no real comment on the sound, as I was dubbing an audiobook which isn't particularly stressful. On the positive side, Amazon is great about taking back defective items.Which is good, because before a whole tape had been played the unit went dark and hasn't been heard from since. So beyond a lack of quality control, what do I think. The tape transport mechanisms are mechanical (no auto-reverse) which makes the presence of two of them pretty much worthless in a device designed to dub to its USB port.
Windows Media Player was the default for the burner, so I just imported the files to WMP and burned from there. Only glitch was trying to burn some cd's. Not a big deal.Good machine for the price. Set it up yesterday. Easy to use and works.
DON'T BUY IT. I've had it a day and it's already broken one of my precious tapes (thank God I do backups first) and half the songs on the cassette don't convert to MP3's in iTunes - instead I get these EZACTmpFiles that don't seem to exist. I think it would be easier to fly to the moon than get this piece of junk to do what it says it will.
With a $15 cable (1/8" stereo jack to two audio plugs) from Radio Shack and the free Audacity open source software easily downloaded from the net, you can do everything this machine does, and probably more.
If you're as non technical as the woman who described the unit as 'huge' and confusing then you might not want this but if you've got some computer savvy and you're not intimidated by following instructions or using the Control Panel you should be fine. I chose ION because I already have one of their turntables and I like using that as well. As far as I'm concerned it's a good brand and I would consider buying other ION products. I bought one in March to convert a small collection of tapes. I found it easy to install and use and I got good quality recordings with very little effort.
